Unpopular opinion: NEP language advisory isn't so contentious:

To find out someone's mother tongue Tenali Raman inflicted pain on them, while our teacher in college gave us an easier hack: find out which language they calculate in.
Our HOD who had been an english professor for over 45 years then would calculate in Prtuguese: her mother tongue.

Did you know, studying complex topics in 'lingua pura' a.k.a english for a lot of elites, actually bungles a students' grasp on mathematics?
I went to a very popular english school in Jaipur, there was a fine of 10 rupees if we dared to talk to our friends in Hindi. The funny part was, almost every teacher, in the beginning of every class would begin in English. Stutter, fail to break down concepts for us in English..
and fall back on Hindi. I would argue here lie the origins of 'hinglish'-- Knowlege imparted to us in both languages simultaneously. We first read the text in english and then our teacher translates the paragraph for us in Hindi. I don't think my school was an exception.
and so even today, people who didn't really develop a reading habit or exposed themselves to english pop culture or literature struggle to speak the language fluently. Even after they studied about 4 subjects in english and their mother tongue as an additional language.
I don't think if a school, on an advisory, acts and alters the language in which they impart education to the demographic that sits in its classroom is english phobic or will take away our USP. The student will still be taught the language, and can pick it up from there while
building a strong grasp of complex subjects. When students are not made to feel inferior for not belonging to english-speaking families where every sh is s, maybe they'll even see the beauty in the english language.
additionally, everyone in this country is obsessed with english. Talk in any other language even at a McDonalds and he'll look at you, head-to-toe to see if you're a hindi medium types.
The good part is that it is an advisory and not a mandate, and might make things better for smaller schools where teachers will also feel more confident in teaching their subject in a language they exercise greater authority on.
