All this maybe true today but this has got nothing to do with traditional jaati based society. People were not so narrow minded that they'd see Jaati in heinous crimes like raeps. From where I come, there are villages which have old stories about some girl from a village giving up her life because of threat to their honor from some by some British official or such person. Now, these girls would become like Gram devis for the whole village+ @swati_gs +

and would be worshiped by people of all Jaatis irrespective of what the jaati of the girl in the legend was.
Traditional people had zero tolerance for such crimes. You may be able to see this in the manner Khap Pancayats treat people accused of committing such crimes+

In traditional Jaativaadi society you could be forgiven for keeling someone but these kind of sexual criiimes were not pardoned.
Not to say that these crimes never took place but the norm in villages is that every girl from your village, irrespective of jaati, is your sister+

and anyone trying to violate that norm was severely censured and punished.
Point is that Jaati based societies might have had other issues but their attitude towards such sexual crimes was something that modern Indian society can emulate. +
