Arsenal Thread... WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG and How we are now 8th and will it get worse or better what are our options? #Arteta #Kroenke #Wenger #Emery
2006 Champions League Final loss, we treated it like this would be our only shot in our life time. This was the climax. Is this the furthest Wenger can take us? Should we not invest to win it in the near future. Our reaction was small club mentality. We needed world class CM & GK
We lost A.Cole took our first Chelsea reject Gallas let alone strengthened our rivals, then the following year Henry, each year the quality in the squad decreased but we were playing attractive football and could beat any team on any day.
We decided to implement austerity to fund our new stadium, replaced good players with Young players waiting for them to become world beaters. Eventually in 2011 we got exposed how far behind we had gone at 8-2 defeat to our Man UTD. Fergie stopped treating us as rivals.
The humiliation saw us invest in our squad 50 mil on 8 players including Arteta, Mertesacker, Santos and Benayoun as the only players with experience. This is how we replaced Nasri, Fabregas, Toure and Clichy! We understood that we had to be patience wait for stadium to be paid.
2013 once we had lost our last top player in Van Persie, we thought things will improve because we just bought Ozil who at the time was arguably considered Top 5 midfielder and the best CAM. This was going to be our rebuild. We ended our 9 year trophy drought...then why stop!
We addressed our GK issue in Cech, Mertesacker had adapted to the EPL and Koscielny was a bargain that worked. We had Sanchez, Flamini and Coquelin tried to fill the DM role we needed a striker because the other teams were in transition this was our chance.
We just never started the campaign with more than enough to win. We went with the minimum and got the minimum top 4 eventually being few players away would increase the gap increased, the competitiveness increased, playing pretty football wasn't enough. The poorer teams improved.
Despite all the times we should have invested and pushed. It was the 2015 season where we had a chance to close the gap brings. We didn't and the smaller clubs closed their gap between us. The board poor decisions and Kroenke lack of investment brings us to 8th.
Our players can do a job and win a game but the truth is they would struggle to shine in any of the club's below us apart from the ones who are decent players. In order for this team to out perform our rivals for top 4 requires a genius of a manager and a lot of luck.
The reason we have been close to top 4 in the last few years has been because our rivals have been poor or in transition however these rivals will invest and maintain the gap now they got champions league football. Our squad needs miracles performances consistently or top players
Top players can be short term impact high risk signings or long term low risk signings where we develop players and sell until we can begin to afford our rebuild. The situation we are in is awful, if we don't get top 4 next season this club is gonna suffer and try the latter.
The only players who are fit to be at Arsenal are... Aubameyang, Saka, Tierney, Martinez, Leno,

Laca? Pepe? Ceballos? Saliba? Nelson? Smith Rowe? Mari? Bellerin? Xhaka?

We are genuinely 8 first team players behind challenging for a title, will we ever challenge? We shall see.
