My first console was a donated, second hand Sega Saturn when I was 8.

It lasted *one afternoon* before it broke.

I didn't play games again for another seven years, but I will always rememeber that one afternoon playing Golden Axe fondly.
Years before, when I was about 5, someone gave me a Mortal Kombat cartridge they'd found on the street. I kept it in my pocket always and would take it out and try to use telepathy to connect to the contents inside and play it.

I invented a totally new MK game that way.
I was homeless until about 8 years old, and even after getting permanent shelter it takes a long time for a single parent to get out of poverty enough to afford a console.

When I broke my back at 13 I played the SNES in the hospital TO DEATH. Fight me for it, other sick children
At 15 I got a PS2, and one game: Final Fantasy 9. I am in love with that game to this day, and the console itself is still downstairs.

Today, it's pay day. And I just bought myself some Megaman and Pathologic 2. This is INCREDIBLE.
I can just BUY games. And consoles (sparingly)! It's literal, utter magic that maybe someone who hasn't experienced poverty or homelessness can't understand on an emotional level.

Every time I click the buy now button, I think: Wow!
