Johnson is said to want more firepower in the Lords, "where Conservatives are in the minority". It's worth noting that the Conservatives are *by far* the largest party in the Lords, with 42% of the political peers. Not bad for a party that's averaged 36% of the vote over 25 years

There are many problems with the Lords, but its independence of the governing party is not one of them. The Tories won 43.6% of the vote in 2019. That entitles them to the loudest voice in our democracy. It does not entitle them to absolute power over every branch of the state.
