"'Furious' Boris Johnson threatens Lords reform after peerages for Tory party donors blocked". There are many good reasons for reforming the House of Lords. Its reluctance to be used as a reward for party donors is not one of them. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/07/30/furious-boris-johnson-threatens-lords-reform-peerages-tory-party/
Johnson is said to want more firepower in the Lords, "where Conservatives are in the minority". It's worth noting that the Conservatives are *by far* the largest party in the Lords, with 42% of the political peers. Not bad for a party that's averaged 36% of the vote over 25 years
There are many problems with the Lords, but its independence of the governing party is not one of them. The Tories won 43.6% of the vote in 2019. That entitles them to the loudest voice in our democracy. It does not entitle them to absolute power over every branch of the state.
