This resonates so hard.

The reason I like free cash flow: Before running Commerce then Growth on Play, I ran Developer Services (monetization) on Amazon App store. Before that, CEO of Semaphore Mobile (self funded), before that, CTO Karbon (self funded)

Raising money as a Black dude in 2006 was complete nonsense. Waste of time. And yes, I did sell Karbon to a larger integrator. Make a plan. Execute.

The angel investing I do now is not focused on Nigeria though. Oprah's, JayZ's, and Dre's wealth *combined* is less than Dangote's
I'm interested in creating the circumstances that create Ghanaian and Nigerian "excellence" here in the USA.

This isn't charity. Every immigrant to this nation owes Black Americans a debt. No exceptions. Even Nigerians.

That "excellence" is often just privilege and access. 🤷🏿‍♂️
VC will never fix itself and start funding Black start-ups fairly.

Only 2 things will make it change:
* Legislation (unlikely)
* Competition (losing out on big deals)

There needs to be a large capital source exploiting the *only* long term information advantage in business...
...that Black businesses and founders are undervalued.

Because they're undervalued, they're undercapitalized. And then the predicted underperformance becomes self-fulfilling.
Bryce works around this by investing in businesses based on fundamentals. No betting on WeWork bros.

On the more traditional VC front, someone that Jewel Burks or Arlan Hamilton funds will have a big exit in the next 5 years. Then they'll turn around and start their fund too...
For really huge deals, these new funds that aren't blind to Black talent will still need institutional LPs to come in. I've seen no evidence that the US financial industry is anti-racist enough to ever do that. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Those institutional LPs will have to come from outside the US.
