I feel like people really misjudge Mythra based on her first few appearances in chapter 4 which is not at all indicative of her character or who she is. Her arc is actually incredibly well done and she's a fantastically written character. When initially pulled she is influenced- https://twitter.com/varooskd/status/1288539473702264838
By Addam so she has an innate fear of her own abilities and her ego is just a facade as she purposely ostracizes and isolates herself from others from fear of getting close. When she finally grows into caring for others and valuing the friendship of people disaster strikes.
She destroys Torna and has a mental breakdown and completely rejects everything about herself. This creates Pyra, a new personality to deal with all of Mythra's trauma and emotional guilt, basically this is Dissociative Identity Disorder. Pyra represents what Mythra aspires to be
A nice girl that people love and isn't dangerous. She can even cook well! In a way this is heartbreaking but just shows the lengths of mental trauma on a person. In chapter 4 Mythra's anger at Rex is justified even if it makes her appear unlikeable.
The rest of the game she learns to trust Rex and accept herself and no longer live in fear of who she is, the culmination of this being her accepting herself finally and becoming Pneuma, her true form. Pneuma always existed within Mythra even before Pyra and I think Pyra serves-
as a great way to develop Mythra more even if she's a bit static herself. Mythra is honestly such a great character and no amount of "anime tropes" or design will change that. She's one of the highlights of the game and easily one of my favorite characters.
