There are several, somewhat disorganized communities surrounding the term “Age Regression.”
There are social media communities who call themselves “the age regression community.” Some of these

community members are adults while others are children. Some of them describe age regression as doing childlike activities and being childlike to relieve some stress of tween/teen/adult life. Some describe it as role playing/pretend playing a young child or infant. Some

of them describe age regression as involuntary medical regression which I explain in my “The Medical Side of Age Regression” thread. Some describe their activities as changing into a different “headspace” as a coping mechanism. There isn’t one solid definition from the

various “age regression” communities due to varying personal definitions and a lack of a cohesive community. There is also a concerning trend in these online age regression communities.
Some alternative adult communities have used the term “age regression” in their

adult activities. They’ve been using the term since before these online “age regression” communities ever existed. This was because some of these adults wished to literally regress in age like Benjamin Button.

It’s a completely innocent fantasy, but an adult community due to its ties with other adult communities. The term “age regression” has since been spread to some of the other adult communities due to their heavy intermingling.
The wide usage of the term “age regression”

The wide usage of the term “age regression”

caused some online “age regression” communities to pick up on trends from this other adult community. Some of these crossover trends are innocent and far from harmful, like using decorated adult pacifiers. Others however aren’t so innocent. Some children have started

engaging in adult behavior such as calling their significant other “daddy” or “mommy,” letting their s/o set daily rules and have some control over their daily activities, and using collars and leashes to be intimate. The behaviors are not inherently bad, but they are

adult activities that come from a very adult community. Some of them, like the rules, can lead to unhealthy and controlling relationships in minors. Some of the activities like the collar and leash can be dangerous and the resources for how to do these things safely

exist in adults only spaces. Therefore these children do not have access to the tools they would need to do these things safely. This also means that predators are rampant in the “age regression” communities because they know about these adult community trends being

present in communities full of tweens and teens.
All of the above being said, the safety of these online “age regression” communities involving tweens and teens is very questionable.

Dressing younger than your age, using an adult pacifier, and playing with toys can be

perfectly healthy, but being involved in the online communities is very risky.
The risks are
- Early exposure to risky adult activities
- Involvement in unhealthy relationships
- Physical harm
- Trauma

communities, make sure they are aware of the potential for predators and the easy and even sometimes accidental involvement in adult activities. They may need to hear that the adult activities are okay, but only for adults.

You can also suggest sticking to a small online friend group and a private account rather than a public one. You may also want to explain that there are a lot of risks to publicly living an alternative lifestyle such as cyber bullying and career/school impacts.
