The day Graham Gano made the 63-yarder to best the Giants, the special teams unit was introduced out of the tunnel before the game.

It was the first time he’d been introduced through the tunnel in his career. His whole family was there, his kids #9 jerseys had DADDY on the back
Never a guy who liked the spotlight, Gano would sheepishly answer questions after big makes and own up to the media and not shy away when he missed them.

But after the biggest kick of his life (in Panthers franchise history?) he was so happy to have ran out of that tunnel.
“I never dreamed I would have that opportunity as a kid. It’s pretty exciting – I actually try to go around the tunnel usually, because I don’t want to be in the spotlight; but, that was pretty fun with the fire and the smoke and all that - I felt like Cam a little bit.”
Ultimately, Gano will likely be forgotten in Panthers history.

Not a ton of long-term love for the second-best kicker to play for a franchise. But he was a huge part of the Panthers of the 2010s and the game-winners he had deserve some appreciation - which he won’t get.
Most folks remember the misses before thinking of the makes.

Thus is the life of a kicker.

For me, I’ll just remember that excited, trying-to-be-professional, we-know-we-can’t-cheer-here muted joy that went through the press box after that kick.
