Tl awake? Good. I want to talk about how college culture promotes eating disorders.
Tw// eating disorders , starvation , thinspo , anorexia (briefly mentioned)

First, let's talk about the administration('s shitty job). The standard student meal plan includes 14 meals a week (aka, two meals a day). This made it easier for me to convince myself that by skipping a meal I was "saving" my meals for later in the week .
In actuality, I ate maybe 3 of my meals a week. Especially on the weekends, it's near-impossible for students to get multiple meals a day. The lack of readily available meals makes it so much easier for students who want to starve themselves to do so.
Next, I really want students to think about the ways they talk about food and how it promotes eating disorders. Students constantly promote diet culture and encourage starvation every day.
Every time I heard people (both on twitter and in person) brag about how little they ate that day, it was another reminder for myself that I should've eaten less/should eat less tomorrow.
On top of that, students constantly talking about dieting/weight loss (again, both on twitter and in real life) without even thinking about adding trigger warnings or making sure the person they're talking to is comfortable with the topic.
I've had to block/mute a lot of people because weight loss/dieting topics are very triggering for me.
I only made this thread because I'm so frustrated with howard students' ignorance. Having an eating disorder (on top of my other mental illnesses) while being black and nonbinary sucks and every day coming on here makes it a little bit worse.
One last point: I don't have anorexia. Everyone with an eating disorder doesn't have anorexia. There are so many more eating disorders than that, erase the narrative that everyone with an eating disorder also has body dysmphoria and is super skinny and just wants to be skinnier.
There is no "look" to an eating disorder, diet culture kills, and if you're fatphobic just say that.
