Alright so, as a fairly influential artist that some might consider a "big account" in dttwt, I feel like I should voice my opinion on the whole creators/fanartists situation. I want to make sure people know my thoughts on this. Feel free to skip this thread!
By the way, I don't speak on behalf of artists. This is my personal point of view.
I think a lot of you need to understand that every single artist out there is expecting the same thing. All of us want our work to be seen and recognized (mostly by the creators) and to be appreciated as much as the next person. We're told all art is art no matter the skill, but
to see someone with bigger numbers get more engagement despite working with as much effort as your own is ought to make you feel much less "talented" or "important". It feels like a competition. Still, you fail to see the big picture. Content creators receive hundreds of drawings
and pieces of fanart every day. And that's not counting the ones you don't get to see on your timeline. There's a select few who go out of their way to showcase as much as they can, but even so, many can and WILL be compelled to their art not being noticed or shared. That's just
how it goes. It's unfair, isn't it? Shouldn't we all be equal? Shouldn't all stans receive the same attention? Shouldn't all art get the same recognition? Why'd that person get a retweet and not me? Why does that person have more followers if they're the same as I? Why did THEY
get the follow? The shoutout? The like? And why not you? I don't think you realize we're all in the same boat. Why didn't Dream respond to your tweet, you ask? Maybe because there's 20 thousand others who want the exact same thing! It's the same for fanart. Interacting with fans
through tweets is much simpler than art because tweets don't require skill and aren't "ranked", yet creators STILL get backlash for not interacting with every person's tweets. There's so much fanart! A lot! It's very complicated to appreciate it all, like it all, and even see it
all. Even if they did shout artists out, the other hundred would be unsatisfied and demand their own recognition. If they tried to rt all art they'd still manage to get accused of favoritism for paying attention to some and not each one. Because, ultimately, aren't we all equal?
You have to understand people will always find something to be upset about. The person who's barely starting art will demand the same recognition as the professional artist who made a fully rendered illustration. And you can't argue that one is better than the other because all
art is art and all art takes effort! This is why a lot of big content creators don't interact much with fanart. It avoids them being accused of only liking the "popular ones" and thus creating more conflict. It's a touchy subject. Of course I want my drawings to be noticed! But
so does that person you don't see on your timeline who has 7 followers. I'm not better than them, my art isn't better than theirs. But if a CC retweets my art and not theirs, it causes an issue, because it isn't fair; so it's much simpler to avoid it.
By the way, just to be clear on this other thing as well, I KNOW plenty of people use the argument of "selling fanart is a main source of income for many artists", but you also have to know that you cannot AT ALL blame a content creator and say that, due to the fact that they
didn't retweet said person's art, they're a terrible person who doesn't care about artists and are the reason for that person's business to crash. Yes, many of us rely on art, exposure, engagement, etc. for money, but it's nobody else's responsibility to promote us. It would be
ideal, it would be really nice, but it's not the law. It might be hard for some to understand, but big content creators, in fact, don't owe you anything. We CHOOSE to make art for them, whether they acknowledge it or not, that's on their side. It would be cool if they did, right?
Sure! But don't attack them if they don't! It's as simple as that! Anyways, thread over, have a nice day.

TL;DR:

There's so much fanart/fan content it's hard to appreciate it all. Better to avoid interaction and thus prevent getting accused of favoritism.
