This shouldn't have to be said but I'm going to make it plain, Judith Heumann might be your disability elder but she will never be mine.

The disability community has spent 30 years lauding one person for doing "so much" for disabled people. When in actuality she did very little to get ADA passed in '89 and in the past 10 years has done more harm than good. #ADA30InColor #ADA30
Not to mention Judy's overstayed her welcome on too many disability boards and doesn't cede power to new voices. #ADA30 #ADA30InColor
On my #ADA30 panel yesterday @autistichoya asked a pointed question about ADA advocacy and rather than allowing panelists to answer the question Judy said "How would you answer that Lydia?" And when they did, Judy said "that's how I would've answered it" #ADA30InColor
Every conversation I've had during #ADA30 is two wavelengths. The first is letting the pre ADA generation opine about how "we got here" and how the ADA doesn't need friendly ammendments.
The second is the actual ADA generation wanting to force changes to the ADA to that incorporate a wider net of defined disability rather than the '89 definition. #ADA30
So many disability elders want to relish in the #cripcamp of a bygone era where the pinnacle of disability advocacy was former President George H. W. Bush signing ADA legislation he had no real interest is signing. #ADA30
The ADA of '89 needs adapting, and ammendmending from disabled folx at the table with likemided legislators. It doesn't need white disabled elders saying nothings wrong with the legislation as defined. #ADA30
Every year the ADA is under attack from Democrats and Republicans alike at all levels of government because both Title 4 & 5 of the ADA for example need to be expanded upon not stripped. #ADA30
There are thousands and disabled people across the United States that are protected by the ADA but the '89 definition literally excludes them to the point of erasure. So how can they know resources exist for them if thier disability isn't protected under this ominous law? #ADA30
Disability in 2020 and beyond is more than the white washed, Judy Heumann, Bruce Darling, Ady Barkan, Nyle DiMarco your accustomed too
It's expansive, its intersectional, and most of all it's not predominantly white. #ADA30 #ADA30InColor
