As soon as I started digging through DMs, emails, texts, I realized that not everyone is going to be happy with conference decisions to cancel fall competition. And that's OK. Each area is able to guide its own public health policies and restrictions. Dane County's are strict.
That being said, where it's allowed by school boards/public health officials, schools can still compete in non-conference. I have in the double digits of people telling me about playing anyway. There's a long ways to go here. Today's news is a formality given the state of things.
I don't think the conferences opting to do this are doing it from a standpoint of picking a political side of the aisle. Some schools aren't going to be allowed to compete this fall, period. And the two conferences so far had to acknowledge that.
2020-21 is going to be as unique as the end of 2019-20 was. It's already been impacted greatly. From sitting in on countless hours of zoom calls, talking to ADs/coaches/parents, I know one thing for sure: school staff members are doing all they can right now to keep kids safe.
I also know that they are working their hardest to provide opportunities, athletic and otherwise. A pandemic is a pretty big deal. And, there's still not clear guidance on how to navigate that across the board. Extremely challenging times.
I appreciate how many of you are willing to share your thoughts on this all with me. My perspective is different since I'm doing media stuff and my kids are preschoolers (oldest starts 4K in a month). I welcome all angles. Helps me understand the bigger picture!

Stay safe!!
