I’ve been thinking a lot in the past 24 hours about this “too ambitious” shit that has been fronted about the possibility of Kamala Harris as VP.
Many women have faced this down our entire careers. We have fought it, “leaned in” to combat it, toned it down, or worked harder.

The goalposts always move though. They always move because this shit is about patriarchy, and in this instance white supremacy as well, and if we could meet the arbitrary line, well, those in power would have to share it.
I left the law in large part because of this.

The story of the straw that broke the camel’s back on that is the opening chapter of my book.
Sometimes, I delude myself into thinking that now that I run my own company, I’m exempt from that shit, especially from other women.

But late today, I got another reminder that you can never escape it.
Yesterday, I happened to mention on the broadcast that the last case I tried was in front of Judge Preska, who is currently the judge on Ghislaine Maxwell’s defamation case.

I provided some insight into the judge based on my experience.

So I’m just going to say this: we get to be ambitious but not too ambitious. Successful but not too successful. Proud but not too proud. Connected but don’t you dare mention it. Aware of how talented we are and have been, but you damn sure shouldn’t speak it too often.
Kamala Harris deserves to be VP. So does literally every other woman on the shortlist & then some.
I want every single one of them to be ambitious, successful, connected, & victorious, & to shout it from the rooftops whenever they feel like it.
After all, men do it all the time

(Also, I just want to thank @leahmcelrath for resetting me on things like this a few days ago. She was right: I am a screen onto which folks project their own issues a fair amount.
This isn’t personal. It IS a lesson, though.)
