Labour candidate today has a pop at me for apparently missing meetings.
I missed a community (not council meeting) when caring for my gran following her mastectomy.
I missed a Covid Recovery board meeting this week after a neighbour committed suicide.
I also work full time.

I have routinely expressed my frustration with the council arranging inflexible meetings that make it difficult for me to attend.
I routinely have separate meetings with council officers that fit in around my working hours. I already have some time off for full council & committee days & have previously used annual leave (holiday) so I can attend meetings.
For instance I had a separate meeting with consultants & council officers about the Knottingley Masterplan (a day after my ward colleagues) & then actually called one of my Labour colleagues to discuss my issues and concerns after my separate meeting.
The average age of a councillor in England is 59. I am certain Wakefield councils is older and I’m the youngest at 26.
I personally think we should have a council that is more representative and isn’t just made up of mostly one demographic.

We should have a council that is flexible and removes barriers so anyone can be an elected member - including those with caring responsibilities & those who work. I’m certainly fighting for an inclusive council that is open to anyone.
It seems slightly ironic that it is labour councillors that put these barriers there for people who work or have caring responsibilities and then the Labour Party who try to attack people for not attending meetings.
