Ok, the IPS Board has restarted, gaveled back in after power outage. Three mbrs in-person at board room. Rest on remote via phone. Here is the school restart/remote learning plan that will be voted on: https://go.boarddocs.com/in/indps/Board.nsf/files/BRZRZZ707C71/$file/2020-21%20School%20Opening%20Update%20-%20July%202020.pdf
Grading policy proposal change — “no zero” policy, meaning F grade is 59-50 points, not 0. Warren Morgan, Chief Academic Officer, says this “reinforces student performance & not student compliance/behavior.” Each letter grade would be 10 point spread (A: 100-90; B: 89-80, etc)
Morgan says: since the proposed letter scale stops at 50, it is the equivalent of a 0, since there is no lower grade. Without a zero option, students would have ability to pass a course with improved work. Current IPS policy scale is 100-0.
Some IPS school calendar updates (proposed): 2 week start delay is made up by making Fall Break a virtual school week, and 1st week of Spring Break a virtual school week. The week of August 10 all staff attend district professionally development.
Virtual instruction should begin no earlier than 9 am for students. The teacher’s day will start and end at the regular contractual time. Virtual learning will be done via Microsoft Teams platform.
Teachers can choose to teach remotely from their classroom or home.
