2. Bret Walker SC was appointed by the NSW Liberal Government to lead the Ruby Princess Special Commission. On 21 April this year, Mr Morrison promised the full cooperation of his Government. 2/6
3. But Mr Morrison didn’t keep his word. The Morrison Government refused to allow its officials to give evidence to the Commission about the Commonwealth’s mishandling of the Ruby Princess. 3/6
4. When Commissioner Walker issued a summons, the Morrison Government refused to comply and thumbed its nose at the law. As a result, not a single Commonwealth official has appeared before the Ruby Princess Special Commission. 4/6
5. Rather than “full cooperation”, Mr Morrison obstructed the Ruby Princess Special Commission to cover up his Government's failures. This is a Government addicted to cover ups and showing, yet again, why we need a powerful and independent National Integrity Commission. 5/6
6. We are only going to beat coronavirus if mistakes by authorities are owned up to, rigorously examined, and learned from so that they are never repeated. Covering up mistakes and trying to duck responsibility for them only makes it more likely they will be repeated. 6/6
