Alright, got a bit of a mask rant. Tune it for a sec
So, in my current living situation, I live with my mom, stepdad and my grandma. Since work has been slow/dead, I’ve been pretty much taking care of my grandma full time caretaking since the start of the pandemic.
I got covid from my family who got sick about a week before I did, my mom and step dad tested positive then I tested positive directly after. My grandma (84yr old) tested negative thankfully.
But this put us in a weird spot as far as her care goes, we tried looking for nurses to come in and help while we isolate but the demand for PPE trained nurses is so high, we couldn’t find anyone. No homes would accept my grandmother either because of her exposure.
Family also wouldn’t take her, as they didn’t want to risk exposing their families if she started getting sick in the next week or so. Upsetting but understandable. Since I had the mildest case, it fell on me to provide her care while trying to not get her sick as well.
I had to change how the house was run, new rules. Only leave your room if it’s absolutely necessary. Disposable plates and cutlery. Gloves at all times, replace with fresh gloves every time. Masks at all times, fresh mask every day. I was masked up constantly for those weeks.
I continued to give my grandmother her insulin, pills, helped her get around, fed her, cleaned her and her room etc. I had to be in close proximity, but I tried my best to limit it.

Miraculously, she did not catch covid. She has since tested negative again.
This is all to say, masks absolutely work. I saw it first hand. By simply wearing masks and gloves I and my family were able to keep the spread of covid contained even within our own home.

Wear the mask. They work.
