FALLEN FROM GRACE

On this episode, all eyes will be cast on a footballer who never achieved his sporting potential, or simply lost all relevance in his football career.

Name: Jack Rodwell

A THREAD...
THE RISE

Rodwell signed his first professional contract at Everton in 2008 at the age of 17, and was tipped for great things by his coach David Moyes after seeing the potentiality of mastering the equilibrium between composure, strength and speed in the midfield.
It wasn’t long before Rodwell broke into Everton’s first team, his debut came as a substitute in a 1-0 victory over Sunderland in 2008.
Three years later, the young midfielder would be turning out for the national team, and on his debut for the Three Lions helped his home nation to a triumph over then-world champions Spain. It wasn’t long before a Man Utd and Man City came knocking.
THE PEAK

In August 2012, Rodwell was signed by Manchester City for £15 million. Man City were eager to splash out on an upcoming English gem that could represent not only them but the prowess of England as a footballing nation.
But the monumental hype built up for young Jack started to crumble as ligament injuries began to set in, and subsequently crippled both figuratively and literally the potentiality of his career. Naturally, players less prone to injuries were preferred and Rodwell would struggle..
... to compete with the likes of Yaya Toure in the center of the park. A significant lack of game time caused Rodwell to gradually fade to the outer-fringes of Man City's first team. It was time to move on for Jack
THE FALL

In the summer of 2014, Sunderland announced the arrival of Jack Rodwell on a 5-year deal worth £10million, with then-manager Gus Poyet believing he could rekindle the dwindling embers of the midfielder's talent as a box-to-box midfielder...
From that time, Rodwell's time at Sunderland was average, if not a bit underwhelming.

In February 2017, after a 4-0 win against crystal palace, Rodwell ended a drought of 1370 days in winning a premier league game in which he had started the match.
His winless run had lasted for
... 39 premier league matches. His contract was terminated by Sunderland the following year.

In the summer of 2018, Rodwell signed a one-year contract with Blackburn Rovers where he made 21 appearances. He turned down an opportunity to extend his contract with Blackburn Rovers..
In January 2020, Rodwell signed for Sheffield United on a contract until the end of the season where he had been training with the team since December 2019.

It is difficult to say where the rest of Rodwell's career would take him at the age of 29.
