George W Bush is a war criminal who facilitated the killing of over half a million people in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Dick Cheney is a war criminal who helped with the above and also pushed for illegal kidnapping and torture.

DHS is a big part of their legacy!

Lionizing the George W Bush presidency, which not only catastrophically failed our country by ignoring numerous intelligence reports regarding the risks of an attack on 9/11, but also stole the 2000 election is extremely dangerous.

They helped to lead us to this exact hellscape.
It may have been a long time ago, but the scars are still very much present.

As we see the Bush Jr-era Department of Homeland security assaulting and kidnapping protesters we must not forget they've done the same to LatinX and Muslims for almost two decades.

This is not new.
Of course I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how they also eviscerated what was left of our constitution with their mass surveillance and police state creating dubiously named "PATRIOT" Act.

Which gave the US government the power to declare our own citizens as "enemy combatants."
When people react with shock and horror that peaceful protesters are being treated as enemy combatants, it's important to remember that this precedent was set by the Bush/Cheney regime about 18 years ago -- and has been used against American citizens in many ways since then.
One example is the war on drugs, which escalated significantly under George W Bush's awful attorney general John Ashcroft.

Ashcroft abused the "PATRIOT" act in every way possible to use the new powers, designated for terrorists, largely against people of color in the drug war.
The same George W Bush presidency also helped to transfer enormous amounts of wealth and power upward to the richest of the rich.

They tried numerous times to 'privatize' (i.e. gut and destroy) social security and medicare. And they ran up the national debt extraordinarily high.
They were, and remain racists and enablers of institutionalized racism at an unprecedented scale.

The "war on terrorism" was really a war on people from the Middle East, in addition to the flagrant abuse of power to further enable the highly racist "war on drugs."
During this administration we can remember highlights like, "Freedom Fries."

Because the administration's idiotic and backward war effort against Iraq backfired so spectacularly that our closest allies were reluctant to support us, such as France, and with good reason.
And yet here we are, almost two decades later, still involved with quagmire wars against two countries that had little to do with 9/11--which one of the main culprits, Saudi Arabia, not only remains unscathed but continues to receive preferential treatment and military weaponry.
Those wars against Afghanistan and Iraq cost hundreds of thousands of lives, injured millions more and cost our country over $6 trillion of debt.

The military industrial complex relished the profits, as the post-Cold War era had not been as lucrative for their shareholders.
So when we talk about lionizing the GOP--the way they "used to be," let's not forget that the republican party has and continues to be a cancer on this planet and of this country.

They have always been racist, sexist, war mongering extremists reliant on fear and propaganda.
That's why we must end the republican party, once and for all.

Not a single one of them are fit for any form of leadership.

They led us down this path, for many decades, even well before George W Bush, and they won't stop until we stop them.
So vote.

Vote in such great numbers that the results cannot be manipulated.

Vote because we outnumber them 3:1 and we don't need to pivot rightward politically to attract their base. Our base is much larger.

Tell your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues to vote, too.
This is our time now.

We have an opportunity to begin to heal our country.

But only if we stand steadfast with our morals and convictions.

We cannot compromise.

Neoconservatism led us to Trumpism.

It dragged the political discourse rightward for decades.

Let's end that now.
