Can I say one thing, as a parish priest?

Very tired of the “this church only offers confession once a week” discourse.

Yeah. Some parishes could do more. But a lot of priests bend over backwards, preach on confession, etc, and still no one comes.
I know priests who fast, pray, and do sacrifices to bring conversion of hearts in their parish but how rarely people show up for confession.

The availability of confession is a two way street: it needs to be offered, but it also needs to be practiced by the faithful who need it
I know many priests who would gladly sit in a confessional all day if the demand was there. But they’re not gonna simply sit there if no one is coming. The service of the priest depends on the response of the faithful
I feel just sometimes this discourse puts a very large part of the responsibility on the priest as if he should do things for others when they want it, but without demanding anything of the faithful. It’s a 2 way street.
Instead of complaining, phone the office and make an appointment and ask the if they can have more confessions. But also, if it’s outside work hours, make the sacrifice and go on Saturday morning. I get some priests don’t care, but most do. Just no one shows up for the sacrament
The whole point is simply: often, priests try a variety of things and there’s still no response. Just ponder, instead of being angry for the lack of confession, ask yourself “why? Maybe theres more to this than I thought?” And encourage. I know some priests are dismissive...
And im sorry for that. But many priests want to. Just ponder more and seek to understand the larger picture
