I’m going to tweet a thing I tweet a lot, but b/c THE twitter likes me today, I’m tweeting it again: PLZ don’t read #NativeAmerican #fiction to learn about our cultures. Read it b/c the book seems compelling, on the story & character level, in some way. Let us be artists.
Some of us are from the rez, some urban. Some citizens. Some true descendants. Some lineal descendants. Some only identify w/ the nation they’re enrolled w/, some w/ 9 nations they descend from. Some have parents who are both native. Some, a grandparent. We’re diverse as anyone..
& that includes aesthetically. Some are from south of TX & don’t know their nations - some do. And all of us are writing realism/literary, poetry, horror, SFF... you name it - & all of us different on the craft level. If you learn something along the way...
Cool. I learn a lot of random shit as I read. But I don’t read FICTION to learn FACTS.
