On June 15, I had 600 followers

On July 28, I hit 6,000 followers

the majority of that growth was fueled by four twitter threads I posted

here's a few things i learned about thread making
2/ The first, second, and final tweets are the most important

they attract the most likes + comments

so put your best info in them

First: establish credibility
Second: share your most valuable nugget
Final: go quasi-inspirational

here are all my final tweets
3/ Don't overthink formatting

but keep it consistent

I capitalize the first line

then use lowercase for the body of the tweet

and use a simple numbering system
4/ Don't use emojis to format

emojis feel like a good way to structure your tweets

but they have a way of cheapening the content of the thread

if you want to bullet a tweet

• Hold down the "option" key
• Press the 8 key

or just go with a simple "-"

or no bullets at all
5/ Use specifics

this is true of anything you write but especially twitter threads

specific examples > general thought leadership-y vagueness

thats why all my threads are case studies of sorts

it grounds them in reality
6/ Include pictures

pics are an easy way to supplement your point without spending characters

use them

also, try to screenshot tweets from the mobile version of twitter

they look cleaner
7/ Use tools

@NotionHQ for planning the threads

https://getchirrapp.com/

or

https://twitter-thread-maker.now.sh/

for writing them out
8/ Sprinkle in some tags

if someone inspired any part of your thread

let them know with a tag

people, even ones with huge followings, love getting tagged in high quality threads

some people i've tagged in the past

@BUSlNESSBARISTA
@austin_rief
@mkobach
@david_perell
9/ Niche is good

I stick to what i know (which is why no Insta thread yet)

but don't go too niche

case and point

this ill-fated Don Quixote thread... https://twitter.com/tobydoyhowell/status/1281986829865156614?s=21
10/ Present with confidence

just like anything in life

don't qualify your learnings

share them boldly

and people will listen
