Welp, today was my last day in uniform after a bit over 25 years.
I'll never forget the day I arrived at OCS in June '95. I could hear the yelling as soon as I got out of my car in the parking lot - blocks away from the school. Really wondered what I'd gotten myself into, but I'd taken the King's shilling for the latter part of college, so...
But I'd been crazy about ships and all things naval since I was a little kid - time to do it for real.
I wouldn't trade the years since then for anything. I've gotten to travel all over the world, both on and off-duty...
...meet amazing and interesting people
...engage in my hobbies and pursuits as far as I could take them
...and work with the best group of folks I could could possibly ask for.
While there were plenty of lows, the highs were incredibly memorable - like getting my dolphins, running a ship as its XO, bringing my ship and its crew back home safe from deployment, and watching my shipmates get their own commands.
The last few years have been fun in a different way, trying to contribute via writing and learning, supporting our efforts to build the submarine force of the future, and working with an incredible group of colleagues at OSD's Office of Net Assessment.
But now it's time to move on and let other, younger sailors take my place. I thank the nation and the submarine force for the chance to learn, and give, and experience so much.
