Important statement by Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani's office in regards to the upcoming Muharram season, in which Shi'a Muslims will observe and mourn the martyrdom of Imam Husain.

Will highlight a few key points in the thread below:

https://www.sistani.org/arabic/archive/26453/
- There are many ways in which the believers can display their sadness and mourning for Imam Husain (as):

1. TV Channels and social media platforms should increase in broadcasting useful lectures commemorating this tragedy.
2. Religious and cultural centres should coordinate with good lecturers and serious reciters (to hold online broadcasts) and encourage the believers to listen to them from their homes and residencies (in other words, do not go/travel to mosques/centres or religious locations)
3. Ensuring that only close family and individuals that are within your "closed circle (bubble)" attend any commemoration that you hold at home and ensuring that you watch any live or recorded lectures (and not invite an external lecturer or reciter).
4. For public commemorations, strict health procedures should be put in place, in which social distancing and the use of protective masks and other preventative measures are observed to protect from COVID-19.
[Very Important point]:
Furthermore, the number of attendees should be limited to what is allowed by the individual governments in both in-door and outdoor locations. Thus the number varies from country to country and city to city, depending on the situation of the country.
5. Publicly displaying signs and banners of commemoration that highlight the importance of the sacrifice of Imam Husain, ensuring that in displaying these, one respects the local laws of the country and does not transgress on private property.
6. In terms of giving out food to mourners (as is custom) the food preparation and distribution must be up to health standards, even if that means passing out dry foods. The food should be delivered to the mourners homes in order to avoid any large gatherings.
