Angus Gunn: 5/10
Angus Gunn was the goalkeeper to concede 9. Before that game, there were significant calls from fans to drop him after several poor performances and mistakes.
Was decent at the start and kept some score lines respectable to be perfectly honest.

Alex McCarthy: 8/10
McCarthy had a few absolute stinkers (Arsenal after lockdown for example) but also had some top class performances (City at home)
Overall I think he was exceptional. Statistically one of the best in the league, some major moments and much more solidity.

Jannik Vestergaard: 2/10
199cm CB incompetent in the air. Proven to be slower than Billy Sharp. An accident waiting to happen when named in the starting XI.
Need better depth than him if we can.

Jack Stephens: 8/10
Jack was genuinely 9/10 for the second half of the season but at the start I thought he was bang average and maybe even poor.
He seems to owe Ralph a lot and has improved considerably under him.

Jan Bednarek: 9/10
The most consistent defender of the season. When Bednarek is not present, you can tell immediately.
So excited about him as he’s young enough to get even better.

Kevin Danso: 2/10
Quite surprised he managed 6 appearances. He actually started 3 with 276 minutes total.
A complete waste of a loan as he was never given a proper go in his correct position, but I can only judge on what I see. I saw a red card and him looking pretty average.

Kyle Walker-Peters: 9/10
Exactly what we needed in January and our most important issue to address this window is his permanent transfer. Defensively excellent and helping Stuart Armstrong level up his influence and contribution to the team.
Get him signed.

Ryan Bertrand: 7/10
Mostly solid from Bertrand, but probably the main reason for the loss that I’ve forgotten the final score of.
Deserves to keep his spot as first choice for me. No transfers needed here.

Yan Valery: 4/10
He’s looked like he’s got some attacking talent but being at fault for losing to Newcastle and some other mistakes makes me think he probably needs a loan.

Cedric: 3/10
I thought he was very poor in his final season at St Mary’s and replacing him was very important.
Wish him all the best though.

Maya Yoshida: 3/10
Unfortunately, it was quite clear that Maya’s time at Southampton was done. However, really glad that he seems to be a good fit for Sampdoria.
Again, wish him all the best.

Moussa Djenepo: 7/10
Moussa really impressed me in the games he got. Unfortunately, he seems to be very injury prone, but his two goals this season were both excellent and he’s young enough for huge improvement in the future.
Potential first teamer next season.

Oriol Romeu: 8/10
Romeu, as always, has been very reliable. In a time where Pierre needed to be dropped to the bench, he’s really turned up and I’m not sure it’s a coincidence that our best run of form has come when he’s playing a more significant role.

James Ward-Prowse: 10/10
The new skipper almost played every minute of every competition, missing out on 60 or so minutes of a FA Cup tie having picked up a knock early on.
Once again, brilliance from the set piece, but this season he’s really progressed other parts of his game

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg: 8/10
I was quite surprised when Pierre said he wanted to leave for trophies, I thought he’d found his level if I’m honest.
I think he’ll struggle in a better team but for us he was very good for the most part of this season. Nothing on JWP though imo.

Will Smallbone: 7/10
Very good first impressions from Smallbone. Against Villa on his PL debut he was nothing short of exceptional. After that, showed some real quality but nothing quite as good as his debut.
A talent to be excited about.

Stuart Armstrong: 8/10
After Stuart’s first season and a half at Southampton I was really worried he was a flop. In the second half of the season he’s arguably been our most important player.
Oh and he’s also become my favourite player this season because of his performances.

Sofiane Boufal: 4/10
As always, Boufal has moments. He got us a replay in the cup, is capable of the odd dribble that mesmerises the crowd and can sometimes pop up with goals.
Overall he’s far too inconsistent and someone I’d personally sell.

Nathan Redmond: 6/10
Redmond only scores good goals. He scored two or three of our 5 best goals of the season and even netted in the derby from outside the area.
He’s nowhere near as inconsistent as Boufal, but he suffers from it too. Goes missing sometimes.

Shane Long: 8/10
For a 33 year old, he’s done really well. Key to Ings’ play, we miss his presence in games he doesn’t start, but he’s also not really up for 90 minutes anymore.
Probably backup to Adams next season.

Che Adams: 5/10
Unfortunately, Che had a terrible start to his Southampton career. He didn’t score in his first games and was replaced by an Ings-Long partnership that found success, limiting his minutes.
Post restart he’s been really good and has netted 4 goals. Exciting.

Michael Obafemi: 8/10
Judging from his age, Michael has had an excellent season, His first playing semi-regularly. A great goal against Chelsea and a great moment against United more recently, he’s looked energetic, quick and a talent, but needs to work on some things.

Danny Ings: 10/10
What can I say about Ings. 22 goals, a brace in the derby and so many great moments. Saved our asses on many occasions.
The future looks incredibly bright if he can continue this kind of scoring form into future seasons.

Ralph Hasenhuttl: 7/10
If this was post January, I’d have broken the rules and given Ralph 11.
However his shaky start can’t be ignored, but what a turnaround from Watford at home onwards.
And superb post restart form too. Clearly he’s a great manager.

I really hope I didn’t forget anyone with 5 or more appearances
And yes I know I said players, but I had to include the manager
