Every time I listen to Obama speak, now, I think about how white people were SO MAD this man was elouent and dynamic, they intentionally chose a man who communicates at a 5th grade level. (And that’s being generous).
And it is SO COMFORTING, after 4 years of idiocy, to hear someone put complete fucking thoughts and sentences together with understanding and careful placement and inflection, and compassion and tone and just...
How do you not WANT the person who LEADS YOUR NATION... who will represent you with heads of state globally. Who is in charge of giving information and intruction and yes, encouragement, to be an orator? How much of a hater are you that THAT lights a fire in your spirit?!?
Meanwhile Trump can’t get through a speech WITH a teleprompter, so that’s still not saying anything.

It’s one thing to want a leader to speak to you clearly, meet you where you are.
These muthafuckas wanted catch phrases & chants. Those things do not a leader make.
How do you SEEK OUT lower levels of intelligence for one of the most exceptional and difficult jobs in the world?
The fact that I look back wistfully on Bush being at the podium...

So, I have a question that’s going to invite criticism but it’s a genuine criticism:
Folks who say Obama was ineffetive, a terrible president, etc.... Compared to whom? Clinton? Carter? Bush(s)? Reagan? Or based on a version of the office we hope for, but haven’t actually seen?
The office of the presidency is inherently flawed. You have to undo sh*t from the previous admin, try to work on the promises of your campaign (assuming congress doesn’t take their ball and go home), AND pick up wars, conflicts, etc that you didn’t start but can’t easily end
Be clear - if a democrat wins in Novemver, the entire administration - or two if we’re lucky - are gonna be about cleaning up Trump’s damage. And we’ll only regain a fraction of the ground we’ve lost.
Trump has just run over protocols and policy like a monster truck bc he doesn’t GAF. He’s not an example to point to and say “The president could be more forceful if he wanted to.”
And I’m definitely not saying Obama is ABOVE criticism, but I do genuinely wonder how much ppl think he could have done differently when we’ve watched how both sides of the aisle move - with largely the same players - the last 4 years.

Obama came in hot on two things - the bailout (which was *necessary*) and healthcare. It not only cost him congress, but support from even within the party.
And re: his measuredness & comprimise - people wishing he had more fight- If you understand Black folks talking about perception & optics in every other walk of life, surely you realize that translates on an even higher level to the first Black man to hold that seat.
Look at how often he was attacked from the right as it was - is STILL & he ain’t been in office for damn near a whole term!
Now imagine had he shown up w/ some bass in his voice. There’d be reports he was threatening ppl.
They started by trying to paint him as radical, remember?
As a few people have pointed out, had he truly not gotten anything done, Trump wouldn’t have spent the last 4 years undoing Obama’s work. BUT, 44 didn’t run off the checklist publicly as much as he maybe should have, and when he did it was “we,” not “I”...

... had he been tweeting and doing photo opps for every order, every bill, etc, the perception would possibly be different. But that’s not his style of leadership.
I get hating the American political system. And the two party system. The system is bullshit, and it’s easy to rig. And progression is significantly harder than regression. But it’s the system we have, and opting out until/unless it changes is a costly choice.
