Part of the reason QAnon is so undercovered is because you have to admit to yourself how dark the landscape is.

Easier to keep talking about congressional hearings than to look up and see a portion of the country has been captured by a cult obsessed with political violence.

This is an enormous part of it.

You don’t have to be a card-carrying Q guy, or even know what it is, to believe in parts of it.

Just ask somebody who doesn’t live in a city how many times they’ve heard Hillary’s arrest is imminent.

QAnon is a revival of the storytelling and community we had in the monoculture two decades ago.

Serialized TV with definitive endings, released weekly, made for built-up suspense and tidy endings. American culture doesn’t have that shared experience now.

QAnon has the suspense and fan theories of ‘90s serialized TV, the community and identity of organized religion, and the clear lines of good guys-bad guys embedded within both.

They’re just waiting for the season finale, replete with mass arrests and hangings, that’ll never come

It’s basically “what if you weren’t wrong, and every conspiracy theory you heard on the radio over the last 30 years is right?”

Q is incredibly seductive for people who have been waiting for their political enemies to fall for three decades.
