Why did today’s story that OSR upheld @AnnaFeuchtwang @EndChildPoverty’s complaint that @10DowningStreet had repeatedly used inaccurate child poverty data matter?

Because to deny the scale of rising child poverty – even before #Covid19 – especially in working families is to deny the lived experience of children swept up in a poverty that denies them the healthy and happy childhood we as a society think they should have.

3/ Because behind the data are children who live with the stigma and shame of growing up in poverty that excludes them from the normal childhood experiences of other children.
4/ Because it is intolerable for us to continue to accept that 4.2m children will do less well in school, have worse physical and mental health and have fewer opportunities in the future due to our inaction.
5/ Today was not about point scoring. We urge @no10DowningSt to commit to a comprehensive strategy to end child poverty so that all children can be ambitious for their future, free from the grip of poverty.
