It's clear that people have no idea how vote by mail actually works. So, those of us who live in states who have this will have to educate people. It's GLORIOUS! Ok, here it goes:
1. It's obvious that people don't understand how Mail In Voting Works. You have ONE unique ballot. It has a bar code associated with it. It is tracked from departure of the facility until it's actually cast.
2. Once you cast your vote that's noted. It's INCREDIBLY difficult to fraudulently vote with this system and INCREDIBLY easy to figure out if you voted fraudulently. Also, you have to sign your ballot. For long-term voters your signature is on file and matched.
3. You can't just reproduce a whole bunch of extra ballots and vote. Also, when you register to vote you do have to show proof of residency/id. This is how it works in Colorado.
4. By the way, both Democrats and Republicans love the system and it was set up by a Republican Secretary of State. The President clearly has no idea how it works OR he does and just wants to confuse people.
5. In Colorado specifically we also have early voting and same day registration. It's GLORIOUS. No long lines, no stress, it just gets done. Republicans STILL GET ELECTED (if that's your thing) I'm convinced that lady from Rifle and Hick will both win. Weird, I know.
6. Vote my mail benefits ALL voters regardless of party. No stress out about leaving work to vote, no long lines (there are ballot boxes in heavily trafficked areas) smooth and efficient. If you're elderly you can go at your own pace.
7. Plenty of time to read the information booklet about who and what we're voting on, do the research and vote informed. *Colorado voters get a giant blue book in the mail in English and Spanish with all of this information*
8. Significantly higher voter turnout! Participating in our democracy. Colorado has one of the highest voter turnouts in the United States and I am thinking we will have record turnout this November.
9. Real talk-It is too late for this year's election to set up a Vote By Mail system such as Colorado's/Oregon. There are safeguards put in place to protect the sanctity of our vote. So, voters in other states will have to work within the systems that they currently have.
10. But, for future elections Vote By Mail works better, is more equatable, and easier for voters. Don't let someone's lies confuse you. The state of Colorado has voted by mail for 6 years. We still have Cory Gardner for those worried about Republican representation.
11. I forgot to mention, the ballots are sent well ahead of the election to voters. It's timed so that if you don't receive your ballot by a certain date you know to get another ballot/vote in person. You can go online via your voter portal to check things.
