Open plea to all female articling students and junior lawyers: please, please stop calling yourselves "babies"/"baby lawyers". Please. I'm begging you.
You have worked your ASS off to be here and you are a grown adult professional. You have value to add. You are not an infant. The world is full of people who will try to discredit you; don't ever give them a hand in doing so.
Also, when have you ever heard a male articling student/junior lawyer refer to himself as a "baby"? I can tell you, I never have. But I see women - smart, qualified, adult, professional women - do it ALL THE TIME and it drives me nuts.
I'm not saying this to chastise you. If you've done this, don't worry - I used to do it too. But you internalize what you say about yourself, and this is an easy thing to stop internalizing. You won't believe how much more confident you feel afterwards.
