Hello and welcome back to Islam 101. Tomorrow is Eid ul Adha which makes today the Day of Arafah and one of the most special days in the Islamic calendar! The day of Arafah takes place on the 9th of Dhul Hajj (Islamic month) and is seen as the best day of the entire year!
The first 10 days of this month are the best days of the entire Islamic year. Muslims can fast the entire 10 days. It is highly recommend you fast today on the day of Arafah! If you fast on this day, your sins from the previous year are forgiven (within reason)
On this date if you are completing the Hajj pilgrimage, you travel to the plains of Arafat (note the different spelling) where you will complete prayers and seek forgiveness. Without this, the pilgrimage will not be accepted. Pilgrims depart at sunset and travel to the next part
of their journey which is called Muzdalifah. On the day of judgement, people will gather at the plains to be held accountable for their actions. So back to this day..muslims fast (it’s not compulsory but advised) complete prayers, ask for forgiveness, recite prayers out loud
The Prophet (saw) said, ’There is no day on which Allah (swt) frees people from the Fire more so than on the Day of ‘Arafah. Laylat al-Qadr is the night when the Qur’an was first sent down. Meanwhile, the Day of ’Arafah is the day when Allah perfected the religion of Islam.
The final verses of the Qur’an were not yet revealed, but Allah sent down this ayah:
So then we celebrate Eid ul Adha (tomorrow) also known as the festival of sacrifice to remember Ibrahim (AS) obedience and loyalty to God. We dress up, go to mosque, eat so much food and generally have a great time!
This one will be so much more exciting because we actually get to see more family members! That’s all for today folks. As always here for any questions or anything!
