is this what one would call a "useless knowledge" thread? ...ah whatever.

let's take a little trip through nickelodeon's branding decisions. but not in the way you expect
context: before 1991, nickelodeon had no cartoon series to call its own. they acquired several cartoons from other sources such as britain, france - and yes - japan; nick jr. was arguably the catalyst for blocks like toonami for how much anime was imported pre-gullah gullah
this isn't about how danger mouse and belle and sebastian were the small domino that led to the nicktoons, tho. just a way to lead into the year when nick had a BIG license to have on the channel
but wait! looney tunes had aired on SEVERAL different networks beforehand - and still were - all under different package names. how are they gonna separate their reruns from literally anyone else? [first image is actually "the daffy-speedy show" cuz wb insisted on that pair-up]
enter nickelodeon, with their ever-changing logo, simply aiming to make their own package show like anyone else. so they make an intro that tells the viewer that you are on NICK, not on any of those Lame-o Broadcast Networks and their "The Looney Tunes Are Buddies" schtick!!
nickelodeon would keep up this "logo-in-intro" trend for any reruns of shows that were *notable* for airing elsewhere.

danger mouse was some relatively new thing that only nickelodeon fould bring you.

yogi bear, tho. syndicated, on abc and nbc for the past 20 or so years
rocky and bullwinkle was another show that had aired under a bunch of different names depending on network, so that had a custom nick intro as well
in my vain attempt to go in chronological order, i might as well put in the time nick revamped their looney tunes package in 1992.

warner bros shuffled rights to shorts between broadcasters, which granted nick a WHOLE lot of good ones they didn't have before
i already posted the alvin show intro, but it's here we have something kind of new, so i'll post it again. rather than making an original intro, nickelodeon cleverly used digital masking to put their logo into shapes within the existing into. quite simple with that art style!
running out of shows...

nick briefly had the rights to air most of the peanuts specials (as in, the ones no one pays much mind to) and the 80s "charlie brown and snoopy show". new umbrella intro time! [they did air the s2 intro for the snoopy show at some point, however]
okay, now we're at the infamous ones.

when the rights to air some 90s spielberg cartoons were given to nick, nickelodeon made DAMN sure you weren't anywhere else. the sentiment against time warner, who had TWO formidable rivals to nick that had aired them, was strong
like damn, they rounded up all the looney tunes to cartoon network, AND they have a show-stopping saturday-morning line-up on a BROADCAST NETWORK?

is the only explanation i can think of for why they did that

the shorted animaniacs intro is definitely time constraints, tho
this practice was already reserved for the relatively sparse "this aired somewhere else in the past" shows, but it became especially sparse when nick slowly started replacing syndicated acquisitions with their own cartoons. they tried it again but oops french like boobies THE END
