Trump is not an aberration.

His call to #delaytheelection is not a shock to some of us. He is the fruition of decades of GOP rot, white supremacy, and overconfidence of white Americans in US exceptionalism.

This country can’t simply wash its hands & move on as if he were a blip

All those who have long maintained and insisted that the “system” and “checks and balances” and god knows what else will “protect us from Trump”: look around you and ask who has been safe from Trump?

Knowing everything that he has done, Republican senators continued to enable him and ensured he would not be impeached.

So who will “protect us from Trump”?

There is nothing “exceptional” about the US. The headlong march into fascism is often awfully mundane.

More than 150,000 people have died and there are over 4 million confirmed cases of #COVID19 in the US. These were preventable and happened under Trump’s watch.

Who is “safe from Trump?”

When he says he wants to #delaytheelection, it is not a distraction. It is fascism.

Hundreds of thousands od people could face eviction in the coming days.

More than 40 million people are unemployed.

What has “protected us” from Trump? And who is “safe?”

Countries fail.

Democracies fail.

And the USA is a country like all others.

I do not have certainty or faith that Trump will leave office or that he will respect the “system.”

Many of us have already been hurt plenty by him and that “system” already. #Fascism

And anyone saying Trump’s call to #delaytheelection is a “distraction”:

Understand that you are an enabler of fascism.

Every crime he has committed was dismissed and diminished as a “distraction,” and it ended up hurting many.

This is fascism. It is not a “distraction.”
