Good morning guys. Yesterday I was struggling with the fact that I couldn’t fast. It always makes me feel disconnected on from my practicing or like I’m not doing enough. Because of this, I decided to reach out to my Hillel Director. Here’s essentially what she told me 1/
Lishmor HaGuf is a mitzvah. It is to take care of your body. It can be one of the most important ones, depending on who you are and what you’re going through. In times like this, not being able to fast is where you must hold on to this. Whether it’s because of sickness, 2/
Strict dieting, or any other things not allowing you to fast, that is what has to come first on days like this. You can eat only what you have to, you can do prayers and services, you can self reflect, and you can hold off from junk food, etc. there are so many ways 3/
To still observe Tisha B’av. This is a day of mourning and remembrance. A day also to reflect on rebuilding. We cannot care and mourn for each other if we don’t care for ourselves. We must start with us. We’re not celebrating, but we have to rise and reflect to honor 4/
The mourning. Focus on the things you can do to move forward and observe. You’re no less Jewish than those who can follow all customs.
