I believe the open internet is itself in Graves 3, being an open lawless territory being overseen by the owners of those territories (platforms). We're no longer groups of friends traversing the internet. We're now in big open spaces warring with each other individually.
This activates Graves 3 in people, even when not in that value system as a whole, to create the "expression at all costs" vibe of Graves 3.
A lot of taking, name-calling, empty talking, no real power, revenge-seeking and one-upping.

I believe this shift happened within the last decade with the public usage of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other platforms that enable comments and expression. Not that this has been bad, this is necessary passage.
The evolution of the internet to gated regulated spaces with borders will likely cause another shift in mass behavior but may create greater divides if that border isn't national.
China is already working on their own internet. Graves-4 regulations haven't hit mass internet.

State or Government-run internet would be a real tightrope to walk. If it's simply regulations and enforcement as a 5-4 partnership, that could work better. Especially helpful if 6 decides to show up.
And it's not that Graves 3 would go away (IDW, etc.), just as 2 hasn't (Groups, chat rooms) but 4 would bring greater enforcement of threats, regulations to the platforms, and subsequently require a higher standard of expression. This would have to be done carefully.
This is why I think 6's presence is so important. Actually 6, which doesn't include judgment of what's happening along the spiral.
Online coaches have already created their own Graves-4 spaces for their audience away from the public internet. That's the island concept I've talked about before. https://pca.st/episode/16a0e1ab-e69e-42a1-ac0c-6c98132ef746
It may become harder to sell online, find customers, and connect openly as the ocean will get more difficult to access and have more Navy in it.
Movement up the spiral is ultimately a good thing but Graves-5 would have to fight to make sure 4 doesn't regulate too much.

6 would need to make sure both 5 and 4 are living up to ethical standards and not disabling expression altogether.
And while regulation of any kind has been argued against, there is too much psychological damage being done proving that we're not using the freedom of the open internet well. We're largely unfocused and going mad.
We're not "divided" so much as we're highly individualized as players in internet gangs or mobs.
The emergence of types of people who would normally remain in the shadows feels like proof of a 3 internet culture crossing over with reality and enabling aggressive strength focused strong-arming behavior even if centered on other value system ideals.
Also odd that it seems everyone is looking for some version of a messiah or leader to fix it all leading me to further believe that there is a public consciousness awareness of 3-chaos needing that religious or government Mythic Order in an internet sense.
That's what Jesus and any other Messiah was, a creator of order of Graves 3 through the creation of Mythic Order. A doctrine to follow and live by. There's really no version of that for the internet. No commandments. No order.
Regulation via 4 does promote focus, improved quality of skill development and learning to take feedback without taking it personally. With the internet being in 3, it makes it more difficult for individuals to evolve their value systems as there is always something to react to.
I'm no Graves 7 and don't have the system answer but I think every level needs some sort of repair at the moment. UBI could fix a lot of issues with 1 and 2. Some regulation of the internet would keep 3 at bay trying to break it. More diverse access to 4 would help.
That means expanded education opportunities, scholarships, job opportunities, trades, apprenticeships, strengthening discrimination laws, police accountability, etc.
Progressives posing as morally superior working on themselves to move from 4 to 5 would help. Not seeing science as a religion but using rational thinking as a path forward for them to amass resources to create solutions. Not wasting energy riling up conservatives.
5 exercising and expressing ethical practices, not to save their ass, would help. Slowing down. Defining "enough." Putting money in more effective places, not making money whilst tearing others down but doing so while lifting others up and enabling movement through the spiral.
6s may need to step out onto the world stage to see the world for what it is, without judgment, to support a meaningful path forward for humanity. To show up in effective places and facilitate the expression and consideration of all perspectives. Many assuredly are already.
History has needed a sacrifice from a Graves 7 to make a complete shift. A 7 may need to risk it all for a big change but who knows, no one may be thinking about how to be the savior of the internet. The few 8s out there may be the better bet but may just be in their own world.
This a super niche thread that is still way too simplified but a simpler expression of what I think is happening with the internet and how that's affecting the spiral as a whole.
What sparked these thoughts is continued frustration with seeing intelligent people blathering on and on conflating truth with opinion, hypocrisy and nonsense.
5-orange tends to think of 3-red as stupid, so I asked myself "Why does it seem like everyone is in red?"

I don't know many who dive into spiral dynamics, so I'll tag @AntoniaDodge @joelmarkwitt @HeyMollyDarling @HeidiPriebe1 and @MeghanLeVota to see if any of this stokes a thought or perspective. I could be way off but better defines for me how I contribute to the internet.
Obviously I don't know enough, I made generalizations, and am making plenty of assumptions. I can't quite escape my own worldview but this is simply how I look at things right now.
