In a healthy polity, Trump's election postponement tweet would get him removed from office. It's clear as day that he's actively seeking to prevent a free and fair election.
I argued in October that acquittal by the GOP senate majority would guarantee this result. That's why acquittal was an enormous betrayal of the American people. Senate Republicans are responsible for this. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/01/opinion/trump-impeachment-2020.html
A bunch of people told me I was being "hysterical" and "paranoid" for writing this -- that the piece was drop-dead evidence that I suffered from "Trump Derangement Syndrome." But the truth was always right there on the surface.
We've now arrived definitively at the point I was worried about. Because Trump is so actively and transparently trying to prevent a fair election, he has guaranteed that a majority of citizens will consider his re-election, and continued GOP grip on the Senate, illegitimate.
That's incredibly dangerous and must be avoided at all costs. But we know he's going to cheat. He's BEEN cheating and got righteously impeached for it. Our only good peaceful option is to overwhelm Trump and McConnell at the polls with margins too big to cheat away.
We should see 10 point Biden polling margins as still "too close for comfort" and push as hard to mobilize voters as we would if the polls showed a dead heat.
