Over the past 24hrs, SM has been flooded by posts on Education Policy in India, with the #NEP2020 at the centre of everything. Seems fair.

But with so many media houses and hosts' "analyses" lauding the govt's progressiveness or critiquing its nuances, ask yourself this: (1/n)
a) how many of these news channels, media conglomerates and TV hosts consistently committed their resources and virtual real estate to education-specific issues? and

b) how many of these commentators seriously analysed the Draft NEP, when it was released publicly in 2019? (2/n)
India is home to ~37mn school-going children.

Why do you think news channels don't cover education-related news more regularly?

It's simple. Education isn't "sexy" journalism, it doesn't fuel many fires and it most certainly does not induce exorbitant link clicks. (3/n)
Over the next month, many big editors will fast-track op-eds on the #NewEducationPolicy2020 and shape public opinion with 3-min reads.

They have every right to do so, but concepts like ECCE, pedagogy, learning outcomes and HEIs' functioning deserve news space of its own (4/n)
This is exactly why we consistently cover education across the board @_thebastion_. It may not always be the most gripping story, but we are firm in the belief that edu policy is a core news subject and that the media is responsible for protecting our students' interests (5/n)
We have been blessed to share this belief with many well-wishers in India's education ecosystem who have contributed selflessly to covering stories all across India, like @TeachForIndia, @lfe_ed, @IndusAction and many other independent journalists (you know who you are!) (6/n)
The language formula, teacher training, interdisciplinary & skills-based learning, etc have been written about in-depth by academics, teachers, administrators and students, so please go ahead and check out our coverage here: https://thebastion.co.in/politics-and/education/ (7/n)
None of this is possible without the team @IPSMF_ who have supported our decision to dedicate a separate vertical to education coverage from Day 1. If you find value in what you see, you can support our work too by contributing whatever you deem fit: https://bit.ly/2XbRe6n  (8/n)
We will be releasing a newsletter on all things #NEP2020
with analysis on the same over the coming weeks, so stay tuned and follow @_thebastion_ across our SM handles (lest our interest in education goes for a walk after waiting three decades for a new national policy) (9/n)
