backstory: the evangelical church was very helpful to immigrants. When my parents immigrated to the states, they donated furniture, house supplies, took them to church and thanksgiving. my parents thought 'america' was synonymous to christian and it was a way to fit in
in 5th grade i got really into Wiccan and magic and seances like any normal 10 year old girl, they told me i was evil and i wasn't allowed to church for awhile
in high school, I dated a christian boy who would say very sexually charged things to me, then immediately pray about it for an hour afterwards. his best friend was dating my best friend atm, told me he liked me then told her God commanded him to break up with her
the last straw for me was in college: the church i attended sponsored an extremist abortion group who printed large canvases of aborted fetuses next to images of corpses from the holocaust and post it all over campus.
im not against religion at all. I believe you should believe whatever makes sense to you, and you should be proud of it. Unfortunately, my experiences with the evangelical church are shared by so many others. Confusion, guilt, and a pessimistic attitude at life and other people
