A Twitter dating mistake you make only once (if you're wise) is the asymmetry of observation, where the person who slides into your DM knows more about you than you know about them.
They've probably been following you for years (or months) and you don't follow them. They know you to a degreee you don't realize. They can live with you, somewhat.

But you? You only start to observe them when they DM you, which means:

1. The asymmetry of observation problem,
2. They can put up an act for the duration of their desire to ensnare you.

Soon it's too late: you're in a relationship with them and discovering several unpleasant things that you'd definitely have picked up on sooner had you observed them for as long as they did you.
This can be chalked up to carelessness on your part. It becomes foolish negligence if it happens more than once.

Find a way to observe them outside of the (now) carefully-curated 'experience' they designed shortly before sending that 'hey' sitting in your message requests.
You can't be too paranoid. It's 2020 after all.
