NHS People Plan 20/21: 1/ The conversations I’ve had with #NHS colleagues about what needed to be included in our #nhspeopleplan are fresh in my mind. A pre- #COVID world feels distant, but our shared conviction about what needs to change has remained. http://england.nhs.uk/ournhspeople/
/ It’s our duty as employers and leaders to ensure #OurNHSPeople are safe - and feel safe - at work. As well as physical safety, this is about feeling safe enough to be ourselves, and openly speak about our fears and feelings. #OurNHSPeople #wearethenhs
/ The pandemic has highlighted that in many #NHS organisations, people don't always feel safe at work. The #nhspeopleplan outlines some of the ways in which we can all move this work forward, with more and more allies to share the responsibility. #wearetheNHS #ourNHSpeople
/ During #COVID19 we have seen our people show energy, creativity and drive in finding solutions to new problems. We must build on this momentum and continue to make real and lasting change, keeping our people, whether porters or senior leaders, at the heart of everything we do
/ Now is the right time to set out real actions to continue to help make the #NHS a great place to work. We have developed our NHS People Promise, which sets out what people should expect from their #NHS in recognition of their skilled and tireless work. #wearetheNHS
/ The themes & words of the People Promise come from staff, who told us what matters most. Of course, pay is important, but staff told us that health & wellbeing support & flexibility are as critical. It’s our duty as leaders to agree that everyone is entitled to what's included
/ Let’s work together to make the ambitions of the People Promise a reality. From 2021, the Staff Survey will be redesigned to align with it. These measures enable us to see our progress & take action to improve, & give staff confidence that this time, things will be different.
/ I know many of us are tired & still processing the physical, psychological and emotional toll of #COVID19. Many have felt the deep inequalities revealed across our organisations and society as a whole, & there's apprehension about the further demands we'll face in months ahead
/ After listening to colleagues, staff networks & stakeholders, I felt it was important to set out how we'll support our people through winter to spring and beyond. We'll now focus on supporting NHS leaders to make this plan a reality/use it to support staff in a meaningful way.
/ I'm now asking NHS leaders to actively & authentically own, sponsor & champion what's in the plan, ensuring our teams do too. Let’s keep the conversation going, secure positive change for our people, & patients. These aspirations aren't ‘nice to haves’ – they can change lives
#Thankyou to #OurNHSPeople across the #NHS for everything you do. To HCAs, nurses, admin and support staff, receptionists, IT, porters, cleaners, HR and OD colleagues, tireless and inspirational staff network members, and many, many more, #WearetheNHS
