A thread on Marc MacSharry after his comments yesterday that public servants “lie on the couch and watch box sets” and “many elements of our State agencies, Government departments and local authorities ”were opportunistic in using the crisis “to do nothing”.

So who is Marc?
Marc is more famous for being the son of Ray MacSharry, the former Fianna Fáil Tánaiste, minister and European Commissioner. Ray is famous for introducing swinging cuts in state spending while he was Minister for Finance that earned him the nickname Mack the Knife.
Now this is important, Ray MacSharry cut thousands of public sector jobs while he was minsiter for finance. He had no love of public servants. These views would appear to be something Marc learned at the feet of his father. He didn't pick them up off the floor.
So lets look at Marcs political career.
He was a Seanator from 2002-2016.
During his time in the Seanad he managed to make enemies with the kind of gay abandon that would lead you to believe he wasn't particularly skilled at politics or he was just a contrarian.
The first anyone heard of MacSharry was back in 2013 when he called Enda Kenny a clown & accused the Seanad chair of pissing all over the Seanad chamber.
Up till then nobody had heard of him. But the following day he doubled down and blamed the media for his troubles....
He made such a holy show of himself that Michéal Martin had to give him a bollicking.....in recent weeks Marc has been agitating against Micheál Martin. And you can trace that all the way back to Micheáls bollicking in 2013.
Micheál wouldn't be famous for bollickings but Marc has a history of doubling down on his attention seeking antics. Marc made a fatal mistake in 2013. He blamed the political hacks in Leinster House for his antics. So forever and till the day he dies he's earned their enmity.
Now Marc, spelt with C is fond of calling people clowns. So some LH WAG christened him Mork, from the TV show Mork and Mindy for those of you old to remember it. As Mork was the clown in Mork and Mindy.
So we'll refer to him as Mork from hear on in....
So then came the Seanad recall...
FF Senator Mark Daly needed 20 signatures to get the Seanad recalled during the summer hols to debate some legislation. Mork duly obliged and was one of the signatories. Mork MacSharry made a big song and dance about the Seanad being recalled.
The leigslation was debated, it looked like the opposition were going to give the FG/Lab controlled Seanad a bloody nose by winning the vote and justifying the Seanad recall. FF lost the debate by one vote....23-22.
Surely Mork was there and voted you say?
Nope..... Mork had fecked off to Portugal on holiday and missed the vote. Keep in mind Mork lobbied intensively for the Seanad recall and couldn't be arsed to even be there for it. What was it he said about public servants being Lazy?
Thats not all. Mork was FF spokesperson on Health in the Seanad. He sat on the Oireachtas health committee. He missed 26 out of 27 meetings. He actually only attended one meeting in a 9 month period at one stage.

Lazy public servants you say?
Then there was the banking enquiry.
Mork asked Pat Rabbite whether he had received hospitality or transport from developers.
A FFer asking a Lab TD had he recieved kick backs from developers will tell you how intelligent Mork is.
Rabbitte loaded the bazooka and fired back....
"to be truthful I don't know how good he is at it, his father was the small builder, and I notice sometimes, Senator, that talent skips a generation."

Which is probably one of kinder things that's been said of Mork.
Apart from being a pain to Micheál Martin since being elected a TD in 2016 that pretty much sums up Morks career.
Some people will tell you that Mork is one of those rare creatures. A dangerous eccentric that's just as happy knifing his own party as much as the opposition......
Anyone that's watched politics for years and the curious going ons of TDs and Senators will tell you.....

There's a very fine line between eccentric and gobshite.....
