Pallava Dynasty: origin of Pallavas are bit mysterious but the most accepted theory is based on critical study of Tamil Sangam Literature which says Chola King Killi Valvan married daughter of Naga Chief "Manipallavam". A son was born out of this wedlock who became king
Of Tondamadalam with his capital at Kanchi. New dynasty took half of the word Manipallavam and became Pallavas. Their kingdom comprised Chennai, Trichy, Arcot, Tanjore etc.
Famous Pallava rulers: Shivaskanda Varman was the first great Pallava ruler from 350 to 365. He extended
His kingdom till river Krishna and performed many Ashwmedha Yagya. His son Vishnugopa got defeated by Samudra Gupta which turned them into feudatory chief and Kanchi for next two centuries. In 575 Vishnugopa's remote descendent Simha Vishnu emerged out to claim sovereignty of
Pallavas. He enjoyed ruling for 25 years and defeated Pandyas, Cheras and Cholas over lordship of Shri Lanka.
Simha Vishnu was great Patron of Art and Litrature. He got epithet of "Avnisimha". Celebrated poet Bhairavi created "Kiartarjuna"being his courtier.
Mahendra Varman I,
Son of Simha Vishnu ruled form 600-630.Mahendra was follower of Jainism but later inclined towards Brahmanism. He made magnificent temples of Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Bramha. He got the epithet of Chetthakari- the temple builder.
Narsimha Varman I,son of Mahendra succeeded throne
If Kanchi from 630-668 was the greatest Pallava king. He defeated Chalukys King Pulakesin II in 3 successive http://battles.It  made him most powerful king of South.He took possession of Vatapi and called Vatapikonda.
The successors of Narmsimha ruled till 9th century but
Failed to maintain integrity because of incapable rulers.
The last ruler of Nandi Varman who charmed throne of Kanchi from 876 -895, before it's annexation by Cholas.
Adi Shakracharya788-820: Pallavas were staunch Hindus, believed in Vaisnavism and Shaivism.
Adi Shankaracharya
The great apostle of Hinduism belonged to Pallavas age.
