We must tackle the racial discrimination & biases that still exist in our education system and also recognise that ‘persistent behaviour problems’ can often be a sign of unmet emotional / learning difficulties.
Yet it’s these young people who find themselves excluded or disproportionately held in ‘internal isolation / exclusions’ - we need to really challenge the idea that these are effective approaches to behaviour management for all pupils.
We also need to be implementing whole education & trauma informed approaches to mental health, particularly in light of the pandemic.
Without this, we continue to let our young people down & perpetuate inequality.
