We lack stability because we are being governed by a backdoor entity called Perikatan Nasional that, as today made very apparent, is not so much an actual coalition as it is a power sharing device meant to hold rival parties together in a temporary, uncomfortable alliance.

The resolution of Covid-19 was supposed to be their path to legitimacy, but sound policymaking never held a candle to the mad scramble for power and patronage.

Despite delaying the opening of parliament in the name of "safety" after even the barbershops were allowed to open, they hadn't much succeeded. PN remains a government with a slim majority.

Today, with the conviction of Najib, an embarrassing failure of a state coup attempt in Sabah and what I suspect is dwindling coffers, UMNO withdrew from PN.

This is all to say that Malaysia is currently not being governed by a legitimate, fully-fledged government.
As normal as daily life feels, we are in fact never far away from another political crisis because we are adrift in the repercussions of the Sheraton Move.
