I am begging and literally SHOUTING, every Black parent/carer/guardian, be VERY active in your child’s academic life. Know your child’s teachers, LSAs, mentors, friends. Know the structures in place in your child’s school, ask questions and make sure you get good enough answers.

There are a lot of things my parents didn’t know about the British education system and the way in which my school did things when I was a student, but they asked questions and did as much research as they could. They listened to me and knew who my teachers were.

Go to parents evening, book an appointment to speak to the head teacher, become a parent governor. If something isn’t making sense or adding up, pull the school up on it. Be as invested as you can in your child’s education.
