MYTH-BUSTING HOME TRUTHS:

1 NOBODY is "anti-free speech".

Free speech has ALWAYS existed on a continuum.

Challenging the “free speech” of racists, paedophiles, anti-Semites, homophobes, transphobes, Islamophobes & people who glorify terrorism is fine.
2 Few people are actually against transgender rights. But like ALL human rights, they are complex & exist IN CONTEXT.

eg it's NOT "bigoted hate-speech" to ask if people with penises should have a legally protected right to work in spaces for females traumatised by male violence.
3 "No-platforming" CAN BE a legitimate, appropriate & effective tool.

Brave, heroic individuals “no-platformed” Oswald Mosley in the 1930s, the National Front in the 1970s, the BNP in the 1980s & 1990s & Islamic extremists in the noughties.
4 "Cancel Culture" is not new.

Boycotts & call-outs leading to job losses have forced positive social change across the world. Think of the anti-apartheid movement & South Africa, & few would think that Britain First being subject to “cancel culture” has been bad for Britain.
5 The suffragette, civil & gay rights movements were ALL “identity politics”.

I’m against bigotry & negative stereotyping.

But I’m especially against the tyranny of absolutism & ill-informed, absurdly reductionist arguments.

Life is messy & complex. Let’s ALL try to be civil👍
