Lots of good ideas in this thread! Would also like to add, including creators with all kinds of numbers. I've seen so many smaller creators get snubbed for lives and hosting things despite knowing the subject well, having strong opinions, what have you. I've seen it so much.

I understand wanting more people to do your book club or your readathon or whatever. And yes, bigger channels help pull that in. We all want to grow whether we admit it or not.

However, I think it's also important to remember that oftentimes, smaller channels are at a

+
disadvantage from the start.

Marginalized people statistically make less than their nonmarginalized counterparts. That means in addition to having to deal with the shit show of *gestures vaguely at Earth* they're also less likely to have access to a fancy camera, lighting,

+
a microphone, etc. We hear all the time that if you want to grow, you have to improve the quality of your content. Not only is that kind of a crap mindset, it goes so much deeper into this idea that fancier equals better that I'm definitely not well-spoken enough to get into.

+
Going even deeper, look at numbers and then look at WHAT the person talks about. Like I've said before, I lose numbers every time I talk about racism, misgendering, mental health, etc. A solid 90% of people I talk to have said the same.

Because we are having the hard

+
conversations that NEED to be had, we either A) lose followers / subs, B) get attacked, or C) both.

By only including creators of a certain platform size in your discussions, you're directly contributing to this. It gets into SO much and I've thought about it a lot, but

+
yeah. Be inclusive and open to that newbie with ten subs who might have some kickass opinions about your book club pick instead of your three close friends with numbers near or above your own who have hosted every single thing you've done in the past year.

I get wanting to

+
have fun with your friends! But by being on YouTube, Instagram, blogging, whatever your platform of choice, you are an influencer.

YOU. ARE. AN. INFLUENCER.

Think about the way you're using that influence, and how you want to influence the community.

End thread, for now!
