@HRDMinistry launched the much-awaited #NewEducationPolicy ( #NEP) yesterday. Here is a quick thread on the key features of the same: 0/n
2/n: The #NEP is likely to be implemented jointly by @HRDMinistry, @MinistryWCD, @MoHFW_INDIA and @TribalAffairsIn.
3/n: #NEP expects following #KeyOutcomes:
- Bring back #2Crore #outofschool children to education system.
- Focus on #21stCentury skills in teaching, learning and assessments.
- Increasing learning outcomes in terms of #FoundationalLiteracyAndNumeracy ( #FLN)
4/n: #NEP has transformed the #curriculum and #pedagogicalstructure, dropping the 10+2 model, and replacing it with 5+3+3+4, for foundational, preparatory, middle and secondary schools, respectively.
5/n: In the new model, students can start taking #vocationalcourses from class 6th onwards, and students from class 8th-12th will have an option to chose between subjects.
6/n: Traditional progress cards to be replaced by 360* #HolisticProgressCards, with self-assessment,
peer-assessment, & teacher assessment. These cards will also reflect the progress and uniqueness of learner in the cognitive, affective, socio-emotional, and psychomotor domains.
7/n: #NEP promotes #multilingualism with mdium of instruction until grade 5 to be home-language/ mother-tongue/ local language. Three languages to be taught to all students & will be decided by state/UT. All classical languages will be widely available in schools as options.
8/n: #NEP eases the accreditation process with #StateSchoolStandardsAuthority (SSSA) and #SchoolQualityAssessmentAndAccreditationFramework (SQAAF) by SCERT & NCERT. Periodically, the overall system would be tested through a sample-based #NationalAchievementSurvey (NAS).
9/n: #NEP puts a special focus on the development of teachers. It has been mandated that all teacher education
programmes are to be conducted within composite multidisciplinary institutions only, with #NTA testing for admission to B.Ed.
10/n: #NEP introduces merit-based #TenureTrackSystem for teachers, with a compulsory min. 50hours of #ContinuousProfessionalDevelopment (CPD), per year, for their growth. Also introduces an online system for teacher transfers to ensure transparency.
11/n: #NEP puts a special focus on #SocioEconomicallyDisadvantagedGroups ( #SEDGs), like Gender, Socio-cultural, Geographical, and Socio-economic. Separate strategies for focused attention on reducing various category-wise gaps in school education.
12/n: Fee waivers and scholarships will be offered to meritorious students from #SEDGs, along with setting-up of additional JNVs and KVS in aspirational districts. #SpecialEducationZones ( #SEZs) would also be setup/declared in areas with large populations from #SEDGs.
13/n: #NEP integrates #VocationalEducation at various levels. Grades 6th-8th to have a practice-based curriculum with internships with local vocational experts such as carpenters, gardeners, artists, etc
#NationalSkillsQualificationsFramework would be developed for each vocation.
14/n: #NEP proposes a national centre for Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic development ( #PARAKH) to set standards for assessments. PARAKH would bring in competency-based assessments, and promote critical and creative thinking in learners.
15/n: To support and promote talented/gifted students, NCERT and NCTE would develop exclusive guidelines, beyond the general school curriculum. B.Ed. Programmes will also allow specialisation in the education of gifted
children.
16/n: #NEP2020 allows multiple entry and exit points in a #highereducation degree, enabling lifelong education, with an #AcademicBankofCredit ( #ABC) for credits earned from various recognized institutions.
17/n: By 2040, all #highereducation centres shall become multidisciplinary institutions and shall have thousands of student enrollments, for optimal use of infrastructure and resources. #NEP2020
18/n: #BestIndianUniversities to be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries. Selected international universities will be permitted to operate in India. Credits acquired in foreign universities will also be permitted to be counted for the award of a degree. #NEP2020
19/n: #NEP2020 introduces new regulatory bodies: National Higher Education Regulatory Authority ( #NHERA) for governance, and the Higher Education Grants Commission ( #HEGC) for funding. Public and private institutions shall be treated on par within this regulatory regime.
20/n: #NEP2020 also includes a detailed timeline for its implementation, with a 40-year timeframe, with the first 5 years to focus on creating frameworks, preparation of teachers, and curriculum pilots in primary and secondary education. The detailed timeline can be seen below.
