So I’ll be voting Layla for Leader today. The main reason for this is because she offers a clean break for us and the chance to try some new things. I don’t think the coalition is a massive drag on our vote anymore, but I am fed up of the rubbish discourse around it in the party.
I haven’t been particularly inspired by the process if I’m honest, but Layla and her team have at least tried to start a debate around our direction - some of the ideas were iffy, many of them good, but it was at least fresh. And we can’t afford stale anymore.
I dislike the many ‘x is the best thing since sliced bread’ takes, and the idea that one leader will bring back the glory days. Layla isn’t perfect, and neither is Ed. Both have made mistakes and both will need to work incredibly hard to have a positive effect.
To win more seats again, we will need a good public face, attractive policy framing (but still liberal) and very hard work by many people in the areas we want to develop and target. We will also need some more favourable political conditions.
Anyway, out of the factors we can control, Layla seems to be the best option, so please vote for her!
